Abstract

This thesis entitled “A Guideline to Undertaking Desirable Jewellery Business Based on the Principles of Buddhism” has three objectives: 1) to study the problems encountered in undertaking the process involved in the Jewellery business at present, 2) to study the Principles of Buddhism as guidelines to undertaking the Jewellery business, and 3) to study the application undertaken in the Jewellery business according to the principles of Buddhism. The research methodology used in this study involved a documentary research.

In this research, it was found out that gems originated at the same period of the earth’s existence. Ever since, a lot of people have been interested in the beauty and priceless worth of these gems and consequently resulted to increasing number of entrepreneurs in the Jewellery business. Problems occurred in this business were caused by lack of honesty and sincerity among business owners. In order to minimize such problems, it is necessary to apply “Sucarit-dhamma” in the process.                 Generally, to be a successful entrepreneur one must perform his duty efficiently, avoid taking one’s duty for granted, and fulfilling one’s duty honestly.

Apart from this, the desirable ways to run business of Jewellery based on Buddhism to embrace Buddhadhamma are Sagahavathu-dhamma in living together and Brahmavihāra-dhamma in the entrepreneurs’ ways of life in their organizations. Those Buddhadhammas are of four bases of social solidarity, four sublime states of mind. By virtue of these principles, man’s, product’s and service’s value can be made available sustainably.
