Abstract

This dissertation entitled ‘The Process of Health Promotion in Non-communicable Diseases Patients by Buddhist Integrated Pharmaceutical Sciences’ has three objectives: 1) to study the concepts and methods of health promotion for patients with non-communicable diseases according to the principles of pharmacy, 2) to study the concepts and methods of health promotion for patients with non-communicable diseases according to the principles of Buddhism, and 3) to create a health promotion process for patients with non-communicable diseases according to Buddhist Integrated Pharmaceutical Sciences. The research was done through documents and qualitative interviews with a group of Buddhists, medical, pharmacy and the public health profession.

In the research, it was found that basically health is of a four-dimensional-state of well-being consisting of the physical, psychological, social as well as environmental and intellectual. Such health has a broad perspective and a holistic. Each dimension is consistent, balanced and promote each other. The process of promoting the health of patients with Non-Communicable Diseases according to the Buddhist Integrated Pharmaceutical Sciences, presented in this research is "SCHEME" Model, which means that the conceptual plan, which the researcher means is a strategy for promoting health in Non-Communicable Disease patients. The process is as follows.

S (Sanitation); it is to live in a good environment and have good health habits, such as health check-up, as well as maintaining health. Living with no recklessness, reducing and abstaining from smoking, alcohol, and drugs is included.

C (Chanting); it refers to changing where a prayer is integrated with medical care such as morning-evening prayer Prayers, Bojjhaïga-Paritta, etc. Prayer can help the mind to calm, develop, concentrate, reduce stress and live a normal life.

 

H (Harmony); it is a harmonization of various health promotion elements. Good health must act in a holistic manner.

E (Eating); eating is integrated with medical care Eating food in 5 groups according to nutrition principles in modest quantities to keep the body healthy enough to live.

M (Meditation); meditation both in peace and introspection is integrated with medical care. Meditation results in a calm and relaxed mind by the practice of mindfulness in the form of the fourth consciousness that determines the current mood. Expert practitioners can determine the illness until the condition that is sick, but not sick. In addition, prayer who practice can create the balance the body.

E (Exercise); exercising is Integrated with medical care, various forms of exercise such as walking, running, stretching, Caïkama (walking meditaion) etc., which is adjusted to suit the physical condition of each patient.
