Abstract

            This research paper contained 2 purposes; 1) to study the 3 principles of Succarits in Theravada Buddhism, 2) to study to study the 3 principles of Succarits in which is a factor in the practice of Vipassana by taking data from Buddhist scriptures; Tipitaka, its commentaries, sub-commentaries, Visuddhimaga text etc. then compiled in descriptive style and verified by experts. From the study, it found that;

 

            Succarit means the right conduct, good behavior and unwholesome consciousness. This right conduct is devided into 3 types; 1) bodily conducts, 2) verbal conducts and 3) mental conducts. Bodily conducts are divided into 3 items; 1) abstaining from killing lives, 2) abstaining from stealing, 3) abstaining from misconduts, verbal conducts are divided into 4 items; 1) abstaining from lying, 2) abstaining from dirty word, 3) abstaining from taught, 4) abstaining from muanders, useless talks, mental right conducts consist of 3 items; 1) awareness from greed, 2) having no ill-will in human and animal and 3) having the right views. These right conducts are wholesome consciousness which are basic codes of moral practice level, its advantages aim at preventing all action results which have affected to mind badly, being an abstracle for living. This is neccesary teaching for human development. If their misbehavior is wrong, it will degenerate to life.

            In vipassana practice, at first the practitioner must live accordance with right conducts; bodily right conducts, verval right conducts and mental right conducts. Then his mind will become wholesome, clearly understand advantages and disadvantages of right conducts, having rapture in what he has done which is in moral level. His mental right conduct causes the bright appearance, without anxiety and being able to bear uprising of defilements; greed, aversion, delusion in rough level which later enrich supportive factors for insight practice which is the keyword for mediation. After that practitioner uses basic 3 right conducts as the foundation of tranquil meditation and developing his mindfulness in order to observe the true state of name and forms until the insight knowledge entering progressive level. He finally will achieve the results and Nibbana in the end.
