Abstract

Abstract

This thesis is of 3 objectives, i.e. 1) to study the idea of the Right view in Buddhist scripture; 2) to study the ideas related to the nursing and the unhappiness in working of the registered nurses at Wihandaeng Hospital in Saraburi province; and 3) to apply the right view as a Buddhist peaceful means in reaching happiness of the registered nurses at Wihandaeng Hospital in Saraburi province. Using Qualitation Research. The tools of the research are the fieldtrip using in-depth interviews and participating observation in the registered nurses’ working in the hospital in question.

From the research, it is found the followings:

            1) The Right view or ‘Sammādiṭṭhi’ in Buddhist Scripture is the wisdom as the start of a life compared to a compass for humans to lead their right lives which will affect their right behaviors and manners consisting of loving kindness and sincere, the way to humans’ happiness. ‘Sammādiṭṭhi’ can occur on conditions of thinking according to ‘Yonisomanasikāra’ or proper consideration and having good friends.  Hence, ‘Sammādiṭṭhi’ is the start of the nurses’ working in helping patients to be out of sorrows leading to both the nurses themselves and others.

            2) Regarding the conceptual ideas related to the nursing and the working of the registered nurses, it is found that the nurse occupation is sacrificing, and having a clear framework of providing services which is the aim to take care of the patients with care, giving honor and respect, and equally treat to everyone.  Form the analysis of the lack of happiness among the nurses at Wihandaeng Hospital, it is found there was  the hospital is in a shortage of nurses that the work overloaded due to shortage of nurse while the wage is too low. There are some discrimination of differences comparing to other professions, sometimes causing conflicts with colleagues, supervisors, the lack of motivation from supervisors and the administrative team, along with expectation from the patients and their relatives; Including demands and social expectation through the internet those become the factors of more accusations.  These make the nurses to work more carefully and seriously, unnaturally causing the lack of happiness in working, and affecting daily-life living.

            3) In applying the conceptual idea of ‘Sammādiṭṭhi’ in reaching happiness for the registered nurses, the researcher suggests the way as ‘the Steps to Reach Happiness for Registered Nurses (R-A-E-S)’ consisting of the Right View, Attitude Adjustment, Empowerment, and Sharing. Following this way, followers will reach the internal happiness which no matter what happens, the nurses will be able to adjust their minds to accept problems without sorrow, by the way of having  the Right view, understand things in accordance with the nature.  And the nurses who are to be able to have the Right view should have special characteristics according to the researcher’s ‘VARISADA Model’, to reach internal happiness with effectiveness and sustainability leading to the external towards working successfully and happily.
