Abstract

Abstract

The research consisted of three main objectives, namely: (1) to promote    a study of performance of Commissioner of Police’s duties; (2) to study the Buddhist principles promoting effectiveness of police officers' duty - performance; and (3) to integrate the promotion of the effective duty - performance of police officers with the concerned Buddhist principles.      

The findings revealed that the promotion of the Police officers’ duty - performance stands for the Royal Thai Police improve and advocate as well           as support several operational aspects as well. The Royal Thai Police promote the effective management, the effective performance of police station, the effective performance of police service, and ethical duty - performance. The problems             of effective promotion are: ignorance of the police commissioner's moral duty-perform-system, the less consciousness in duty, the police officers' service, and the police officers' behaviors.

The Buddhist principles promoting effectiveness of police officers' duty – performance are: (1) the Four Sublime States of mind: 1. loving-kindness                   in colleagues, 2. compassion to help others, 3. sympathetic joy in others' successes, and 4. equanimity with no prejudice; (2) 4 Iddhipadas (the Four Paths of Accomplishment): 1.Chanda - aspiration in work, 2. Viriya - effort, commitment          in working, 3. Citta - thoughtfulness, responsibility to work, and 4. Vimamsa - investigation, revision of work, adjust to improve even further; (3) 4 Sangahavatthus – Bases of social Solidarity: 1. Dana - giving, generosity to help others, 2. Piyavaca - kindly speech, 3. Atthacariya - useful conduct in both oneself and others, and           4. Samanattata - even and equal treatment. (4) The 5 Balas - powers: Saddhabala - confidence, faith in good deeds, 2. Viriyabala - energy, persistence to control suspicion of physical work, perseverance to control idleness, 3. Satibala - mindfulness to control emotion and eliminate passion for control of negligence for ignoring senseless distraction, 4. Samadhibala - Meditation to concentrate on active duty, and 5. Panyabala - Wisdom, power to control intellectual knowledge and ignore the ignorant.

The integrate the promotion of the effective duty - performance of police officers with the concerned Buddhist principles can be divided as follows: 1. The 4 Brahmaviharas - the Four Sublime States of mind: the police officers treat colleagues with loving-kindness, compassion to help others from sufferings, sympathetic joy in others' successes, and equanimity with no prejudice; 2. The 4 Iddhipadas - the Four Paths of Accomplishment: the police officers perform duty with aspiration in work, effort, commitment in working, thoughtfulness, responsibility to work, and investigation, revision of work, adjust to improve even further effectively; 3. The 4 Sangahavatthus – Bases of social Solidarity: the police offices are of generosity to help others including colleagues, kindly speech, useful conduct in both oneself and others, and also even and equal treatment. 4. The 5 Balas - powers: the police officers perform with full confidence, faith in good deeds, full of energy, persistence to control suspicion of physical work, perseverance to control idleness, with mindfulness to control emotion and eliminate passion for control of negligence for ignoring senseless distraction, and meditation to concentrate on active duty, as well as wisdom, power to control intellectual knowledge and ignore the ignorant. The police officers integrated the said four principles to promote the police commissioners duty-performance with effectiveness enabling the promotion of police commissioners duty-performance with more effectiveness.
