The Development of the Roles of State Buddhist University for Supporting ASEAN Community

Abstract

 The objectives of this research are as follows: 1) To study generality of State Buddhist University for Supporting ASEAN Community; 2) To analysis the Roles of State Buddhist University for Supporting ASEAN Community; and 3) To proposemethods for the Development of the Roles of State Buddhist University for Supporting ASEAN Community. The researcher used the qualitative research method

by documentary analysis and In-depth interview from 25 Key Informants who are competent scholars including the executives and instructors in Mahachulalongkornrajavidlayala University. After that the data were synthesized to be methods in the fundamental role development, afterwards data would be collected by focus group discussion from 10 experts to confirm the role development of State Buddhist university for Supporting ASEAN Community.
The research findings are as follows:
1. The ASEAN Community has an objective of the combination of member Association of Southeast Asian Nations by 2015 with one vision of ASEAN leaders to build one community fully with the high capacity in competition and people as the center. The ASEAN Community is comprised of three pillars, namely ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC), ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), and ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC).
2.The roles of State Buddhist University for Supporting ASEAN Community are comprised of the role for readiness preparation to Association of Southeast Asian Nations community according to the strategies of the Office of Higher Education Commission and the roles of State Buddhist University in implementing the university five missions for Supporting ASEAN Community, namely: the production and development of graduates with quality and standard learning and instruction; the promotion of research and knowledge development to increase the graduates capability in the level of international Buddhist research; the promotion of Buddhism and academic service for national and international community and society; the preservation of Buddhism, art and culture; and the management
administration according to good governance.
3. The methods for development of the roles of State Buddhist University for Supporting ASEAN Community are as follows: (1) The production and development of graduates with quality and standard learning and instruction will be met by the production and development of graduates with desirable characteristics and good model to the society, nation and ASEAN community; (2) The promotion of research and knowledge development to increase the graduates capability in the
level of international Buddhist research will be met by the production of works,propagation of Buddhist research works and application of Dharma emphasizing Thainess and ASEAN identity; (3) The promotion of Buddhism and academic service for national and international community and society will be met by developing State Buddhist University as the Center of Buddhism providing an academic service to the Sangha, society, and ASEAN community; (4) The preservation of Buddhism, art and culture will be met by developing the University as Buddhist educational sources integrating with art, emphasizing the promotion and coordination of activities in preservation of Thai culture integrating with ASEAN culture;(5) The management administration according to good governance will be met by developing the University as its good model to uplift the University status to the world class
university.
